Job Description
- Assembling historical data by consulting sources of information such as historical indexes and catalogues, archives, court records, diaries, newspaper files and other materials
- Organising, authenticating, evaluating and interpreting historical, political, sociological, archaeological, anthropological and linguistic data
- Undertaking historical and cultural research into human activity, and preparing and presenting research findings

- Rendering the meaning and feeling of what is said and signed into another language in the appropriate register and style in a range of settings such as courts, hospitals, schools, workplaces and conferences
- Studying original texts and transcripts of recorded spoken material to comprehend subject matter and translating them into another language
- Rendering the meaning and feeling of written material, such as literary, legal, technical and scientific texts, into another language in the appropriate register and style, so that it will read as an original piece rather than as a translation

Application Steps
- 1. Obtain or hold appropriate NAATI certification;
- 2. Complete the NAATI education level and skills assessment and attach supporting documents;
- 3. Submit your completed application form to applications@naati.com.au.
Skills Assessment Requirements
Academic requirements
- 1. Hold a certified translator certificate in the same language combination;
- 2. Completed (graduated or eligible to graduate) a NAATI-recognized translation or interpreting qualification – Advanced Diploma or higher within three years prior to application;
- 3. Provide evidence of at least two years’ experience as a translator or interpreter in one language combination.
Certified Conference Interpreter Requirements
Completed (graduated or eligible to graduate) a NAATI-accredited conference interpreting qualification – Masters degree or higher (equivalent to Australian Qualifications Framework [AQF] Level 9) within three years prior to application.
At least two years of conference interpreting experience in the same language combination is recommended.
