Admissions update – October 2024

Higher Degree by Research students
Non-student visa holders
Study abroad and exchange students

We would like to inform you of an important update regarding our course availabilities.
Course Availability – Semester 1, 2025
Following our recent update on 27 September, the University is actively managing our degree offerings at both undergraduate and postgraduate coursework levels. Due to an overwhelming interest in our programs, we have had to close applications and/or limit offers for New Overseas Student Commencement (NOSC) students in several programs for Semester 1, 2025.
Currently, some students are exempt from the proposed government’s new overseas commencement cap. These categories include:
- Current students at the University of Sydney and within a maximum 12-month period since completion of previous candidature with the University
- Higher Degree by Research students
- Non-student visa holders
- Study abroad and exchange students
- Australian Government sponsored scholars and visa holders
- Other Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade or Defence-sponsored students
- Students from the Pacific and Timor Leste
- Foreign government scholarship holders
To help you manage expectations, we have created a regularly updated list of courses that are at capacity or have limited NOSC availability, while still accommodating non-NOSC applicants. This list also provides an update on quota programs where NOSC and non-NOSC places are at capacity. We recommend that you bookmark the link for your reference, but please avoid downloading it, as it is a live document.

Additionally, the University of Sydney has released a page dedicated to Frequently Asked Questions to provide you with helpful information. This page will continue to be updated as information becomes available.
As we approach our program quotas, any offers not fully accepted or lacking payment evidence will be withdrawn, and applicants will be notified via email.
Offer holders with packaged courses, including the Centre for English Teaching and University of Sydney Foundation packages, as well as current University of Sydney enrolled students, will have their offers remain valid until their results are released, as we have reserved spots for these students.
To better manage quotas, we have introduced shorter acceptance deadlines. We appreciate your support in helping students set realistic expectations. However, due to high acceptance volumes, offers may expire before the indicated deadlines.
Applicants who applied for credit but have not yet received an outcome can choose to cancel their applicant credit application, accept their offer to secure your place and then re-apply for student credit.
Applicants on the waitlist will remain in consideration for any available places and for future rounds of offers. We may come to our partners to check if the student is still waiting for their offer if and when a place becomes available, so please inform your teams that we will require them to assist us with this.
Onshore Special Admissions Process (OSAP) for current University of Sydney undergraduate students
We remind you that if you have current students studying at the University of Sydney who would like to secure a place for another degree they should apply via the Onshore Special Admissions Process (OSAP) once they have completed and have results for their penultimate (second to last) semester. This will help them to secure their place in their next degree as whilst they are not counted in the NOSC, many courses have overall capacity limits and so securing their place early will ensure they can avoid any disappointment of their second degree not having places available.
